#Disability benefits have already been destroyed, Liz friggn Kendall

As a person who has been campaigning for benefits and decent housing for all for more than 20 years, I have to ask – does Liz Kendall not realise that the job of destroying disability benefits and disabled people has already been TOTALLY done? 14 years of Tories mate.

It is already very, VERY hard to get PIP thanks Liz. How about you try it. And it is also very difficult to get benefits which don’t require you to work when you cannot, or to regularly attend useless jobcentre ‘courses’ on putting a CV together for the 1,00000000th time. Give me strength.

Here’s me ranting about that. Enjoy and please rant yourself.

And in case anyone who knows eff all turns up here to say that disabled people who really need support still get it – do me a favour. People who are most in need are the people whose support is targeted most aggressively, because the government feeling is that those people can’t fight back.

If you want a good example, let’s take a moment to remember the Tories’ slaughtering of the independent living fund not so long ago. That fund paid for 24/7 care support for profoundly disabled people who required that support to live their lives. The government went after them anyway.

So – time to piss off, Liz. You’re playing an old tune which was garbage in the first place.

And if Liz actually wants to hear from a real person, here’s Niki, a mother of a disabled son, talking about the absolute farce that has been trying to get benefits and support for her disabled son. She explains that getting this support is actually now her full time job. She also says that most people she knows give up trying to get benefits and housing help because it’s just impossible.

  1. Well put. I couldn’t agree with you more. The current govt. and the other parties with one or two exceptions are all neoliberals, and their only Interest Is to protect the rich.

  2. I totally agree I myself am on adp and it was a complete nightmare from the start. I have significant mental health issues see a psychiatrist, psychologist have a case worker and the stress alone applying causes I terrible. Then you get zero points and have to wait to appeal. More stress. Went to the appeal with my case worker and was accepted. But the whole ordeal is torture. Then the dreaded review letters come. More stress. Stress on top of stress to the most vulnerable people in society. I’m glad I don’t know if its just scotland but now they contact workers I.e psychiatrists so we don’t need to deal with them.

  3. Well said Kate. In my experience when trying to get PIP it helps if you’re a Paraplegic or are actually dying, otherwise you have little chance of getting it. Liz Kendall is a Tory in disguise.

  4. These cuts are going to affect a lot of people like me; elderly (I’m 61) with arthritis and musculoskeletal and arthritis issues. I’m currently earning above my AET so the jobcentre are leaving me alone, nearly a year now cleaning at least 16 hours a week, regularly covering so no rest days for 9 days, busy transport hub, freezing in winter, I’m now developing RSI from litter picker fingers bent and deformed with bone spurs , doubt I’ll last another winter there and I wouldn’t qualify for PIP now. I’m allowed to have my rest days and annual leave without jobcentre appointments ATM but it hurts even more pardon the pun, that on these times I’m unable to do my crochet tapestry and embroidery hobbies for long because of the pain in my hands. And for what? Streeting can open as many new clinics as he wants, create as many extra appointments as he wants, but me and thousands like me are literally worn out. All the government we are improving poverty is bull****. The wage rise (I’m on 12.60 and hour) and increase in UC standard allowance make no difference to me as 55% of my wage is deducted and I pay FULL council tax! The one thing that has put money in my pocket is for the past year I’ve had my elderly persons bus pass which saves me 900 a year. And the saddest thing is I’m still earning less than the median. Thankfully in Wales we get bus pass at 60

    • This is such a mess. They need to find something else to talk about. Bloody Labour. They should be turning the world’s wrath on the likes of Amazon, but no. Let’s try and get a few points from Reform by kicking people with arthritis. Inspiring stuff.

      • Exactly Kate,! Over on Benefits and Work there’s a new post that before the early May holiday the DWP quietly slipped out a new report saying among other things that the work coaches they’re going to recruit will in fact make very little difference in getting the disabled into work( we knew this already)! I wonder if these plans will actually go through? The mood is turning ugly now

        • If I hear another MP talk about “tailored support” at the jobcentre, I’ll have their nads out with a spoon.

Am doing a podcast episode on this as we speak. I literally can’t stand any more of this vacuous shit

          • Looking forward to it! I really don’t think a work coach will cure my arthritis sciatica and degenerative disc disease…..
I applied for call centre work, never got anywhere, not sure what else I could do…. maybe I could see if I could still retrain as a lifeguard which was suggested when I first moved to Wales and started claiming!?

          • Excellent suggestion. Lifeguards all round for summer.

I’m seeing the “curing the sick” part of it as one for Mr New Pope. That would be a mega start for Popey man

  5. So with arthritis sciatica degenerative disc disease in my neck (now affecting both shoulders) and probably RSI, but I’m fit to work, and 5 years ago I was advised to give up cleaning…. To do WHAT??
