Pro choice demonstration, central London March 30

Some videos from today’s demonstration in Bedford Square in London, as Bishop Alan Hopes and the faithful knelt… Good to see such a turnout on the pro choice side, although the event as a whole was disconcerting. It was as though we’d been transported back 50 years and to another country… and the number of men in the anti choice camp was outrageous.

Good to see a few supportive ones on our side of the fence, though.

In this first video, an anti abortion demonstrator carried a sign with a picture of a baby on it into the pro choice part of the demonstration and stood there. That was fairly confrontational and he got the appropriate response:

Here, a man in the anti abortion crowd leans over the fence to taunt pro choice demonstrators with a rosary:

  1. Really useful videos, get a good sense of what was going on.

It was a shame I couldn’t get along to this as there was a clash I definitely couldn’t get out of, glad it went well.

  2. Outrageous that so many men are pro life. But abortionists are fine if the men are with them.
Seems to me, those abortionists making the most noise, are those never going to require an abortion. (The ones consuming most of the worlds resources)

  3. The limits to logic: anti-abortionist female to pro-choice woman at Bedford Square last night: ‘How would you like it if you’d been aborted’? (answers on a first-class postage stamp, please)!

What religious anti-abortionists/anti-contraceptives are against it seems to me is sex. They don’t like/are afraid of it – nor are they a particularly good ad for living judging by last night’s dull colourless lot (see vid above). Much can be read from a face. And what professional religious are really about is power. And given extent of sexual abuse within all churches/religions but particularly the Catholic church, nauseating to hear priest and male coterie chanting in Latin, smug expressions all.

Where ‘pro-life’ couples in attendance, it was the women who were vocal.

  4. Brilliant videos Kate! Just put my post together and will publish.

Meg H – anti-abortionists are just not bright, are they?!! So much misogyny in anti-abortion, they want to control and coerce women.

  8. i am christian. i beleive that humans have no right to take away another human life. it is not our decision to make. i beleive in protecting the innocent and the people who have no voice. i see the wrongs of abortion, it is plain and clear in my mind that it is murder. it appalls me that in this country we kill murderers, serial killers, and innocent voiceless infants. it seriously makes me want to cry. the claim that aborting saves kids from suffering in life is rediculous. everyone has challenges in life, everyone. it is apart of life and is not a reason to kill them. i dont see the sense in that. this baby will live in poverty so lets kill him. no. let them live, you never know who they will grow up to be. you never know the accomplishments they will make in their life. even if they dont make any accopmlishments, we still shouldnt kill them, because they have the right to life. if we killed everyone on this planet who has challenges in their lives then no one would be left. God gives everyone challenges for a reason. i want to do whatever it takes to protect these kids and give them a chance to live. even if it means voting for a president who will raise my taxes, i dont care. it is a sacrifice that i am happy to make. human life is more valuble than money. they are humans for goodness sake. living humans!
