Is Newham council evicting people into red alert summer heat?

In my latest podcast, a Newham whistleblower has more about the Newham council team which is aggressively evicting homeless people from temporary housing and pushing them into truly awful places which are cheaper.

My source tell me that in the heatwave we had about a fortnight ago, one family was evicted onto the street – on a boiling hot red alert day.

Councils are supposed to help people shelter from the extreme heat we’re having, not push them out into it.

Families get very little notice that the council is going to make them move somewhere dreadful. They get a call from a council officer on a burner phone. The officer says the family has to move to the cheaper and crappier place immediately, or they’ll have no housing at all.

Families I’ve spoken to say that the “housing” they’re pushed into is filthy, has no hot water and is filled with mice and mouldy. Great.

I’ve asked and asked and asked the council for comment on all of this but they have been very quiet. Silent, even. Perhaps this will inspire them.
